DanceSport Sri Lanka headed by Malinga Fernando (President), Gamini Jayasinghe (Vice-President), Gobinath Sivarajah (Secretary) and Kevin Nugara (Director of Development) hopes to take DanceSport to a prominent place in Sri Lanka and compete at the top level in the world stage.
“A lot of clubs are running with different disciplines, like Breaking, but there are no organizations to take care of the athletes. Athletes always should be kept at the heart of the Olympic movement.
Since DanceSport is one of the Olympic Sports recognized by the IOC in 1997 but not developed in Sri Lanka, we took the initiative to establish the association in 2021 and got the co-opted membership from the National Olympic Committee.

Now, we are in the process of getting the National Federation application from the Ministry of Sports. Once it’s done then we will be fully recognized, and our athletes will be able to participate on the world stage,” added Gobinath Sivarajah, Secretary of DanceSport Sri Lanka.
The governing body of DanceSport is World DanceSport Federation (WDSF). The 1st WDSF World DanceSport Games were held in 2013 in Taipei while Breaking’s debut came at the 2018 Youth Olympic Games.
